Wandroid#1 OFMO Races and Classes

There are five races in this game, no sub-classes or anything fancy like real D&D, but it is extremely similar.  They are Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, and Hobbit.  Your character's abilities are determined by the values of these traits:  Strength, Intelligence, Piety, Vitality, Agility, and Luck.  For the various races, here are the starting values for each trait.

When you create a new character, the game will give you a random number of Bonus Points (up to 25) to add to each trait in order to determine which Class he or she will be. (You can hit Cancel several times to get a higher number of Bonus Points to work with).  Here are the requirements for each Class.  Note:  Some Classes have Alignment restrictions; Lord and Ninja cannot be created as new characters, but must be changed from an existing character.)

  1. Hello! I have been reading your blog's Wandroid review/walkthrough(?) and I have found it to be very helpful as well as informative and enjoyable. The only (minor) error I have spotted is here, in that you cannot be "good" and be a thief as far as I can tell. Only neutral or evil. However I have found this to be an indispensable resource and this is my first go-around in the Wizardry universe, with my only previous experience with "blobbers" being a few hours in Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra.

  2. Can you actually create a Samurai from starting? I cannot with a evil gnome and 19 bonus points (which should meet minimums).

    1. Yes you can, if you get enough points. I have a dwarf samurai (silly image, but there it is) that I had from the start. When you get the points to distribute, you can keep rerolling until you get a high enough number. I don't think samurai can be evil, ninja have to be evil, and lords have to be good (at least they did in Wizardry).

    2. I got it. Sammy's can't be evil!

  3. You probably don't check comments here anymore but...

In Wizardry, if you changed a character's class they would retain attributes from their former class. A magic user could change to a priest and still do magic spells. Does that happen in Wandroid? Would like to know before destroying my wizard.

    1. Well...apparently a character CAN change alignment in this game also. Found that out the hard way. The fighter I was grooming to become a lord just turned evil when I accidentally attacked a friendly group of demons (lol...friendly demons) on my way back from the demon room on level 5...gonna take him out alone looking for friendly groups to leave be...hopefully he will turn back.

    2. It worked...didn't even take long. 3 friendly groups walked away from and my fighter became "good" again...yay.

  4. FWIW, you can practically start with any class, even a Ninja. The trick is a) you need the right race, b) keep rolling until you get high enough points. For Ninja, start with Hobbit and roll until 45+ points. Or Gnome and roll until 47+ points.
